Course description

During the general basic program graduates acquire the basic aspects of Social and Natural Sciences, EU and Economics, Mathematics, Informatics, Chemistry, Physics, Geography and Biology. In the professional basic program they study Biochemistry, Cellbiology, Plant- and Animal Systematics. In the professional main program students attend Comparative Physiology, Plant Physiology, Human Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Ecology, Biogeography, Evolution-Biology, Etology, Environment and Nature Protection subjects. At the differentiated professional program they acquire special disciplines of the specialisations. Specialisations on offer: Biologist, biologist laboratory operetor, biology teacher. Majority of the subjects are of theoretical and laboratory practical ones.

Careers

In the Northern region of the country a growing number of laboratories need well educated professionals in environment protection, healthcare, water protection, food industry, pharmacology, agriculture. The profile of the education enable professionals with a college or postgraduate degree to take jobs as indipendent assistants in public education, laboratories and institutions doing theoretical or applied researches. Those graduating at biologist operator specialisation, based on their general biological background, are capable of fulfilling various tasks of life, eg. in quality checking laboratories in healthcare, canning and food industry, pharmacology, generally in bioindustry, in environment protection an in agriculture as well. Their knowledge can also be utilised in certain business activities.

Focus of the training

Graduates familiar with the basic aspects of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Informatics will be capable of analysing the most important correlations of Biology and of  furthering their knowledge in their chosen  field of study. Moreover, students well versed in the most important research methods, and equipped with sufficient practical and laboratory knowledge will be able to outline, realise, and evaluate scholarly objectives related to the subject matter. Furthermore, the acquired theoretical knowledge will enable graduates to continue their studies in second cycle M.A. programs.

  • Course length: 6 semesters, 180 credits
  • Form of study: Full-time and correspondence training
  • Language requirements: Intermediate, complex (oral and written) exam
  • Entry requirements: Intermediate level final exam
  • Peculiarities of the program: Majority of the lessons are in laboratories where students acquire the most important disciplines of Chemistry, Biology, Analitics and learn measuring equipment. A special feature of the major is field practice.
