Teacher of Informatics

Course description

The aim of the programme is to prepare our students to be capable of teaching informatics subject in 5-12 classes of public education, vocational and adult education by giving them appropriate pedagogical and professional skills.

Our students are prepared for working at final exams, teaching at informatics secondary education. We find it important to make our students able to do developments in school informatics equipment, educational and communicational technologies. Completing their training they can apply for doctoral programmes.

Careers

Various informatics appliances are everywhere present nowadays. Everybody should know how to use them in appropriate way.

Further sophystication and more widespread usage of informatics appliances is expected in the future, therefore demand will further grow for specialists able to orientate others in our computer dominated world. Naturally more than ever before experts are needed to create and maintain informatics gadgets, systems. Although students acquiring informatics teacher degree are mainly educated to teach in 5-12-class age groups, such qualification is welcome in other informatics professions as well.

Having acquired informatics teacher degree chances are excellent to work in primary and secondary schools or other informatics related positions.

Focus of the training

Major subjects: Programming environment, Basics of artificial intelligence, Data security in information society, Application skills, Application of graphics softwears, Computer studies, Program languages in public education, Algorythms, Teaching datamodelling, Elements of teaching informatics, Project laboratory, Web developing, etc.

General information

  • Name of qualification in the degree: teacher of informatics
  • Course length: 2-5 semesters depending on pre-qualification.
  • Form of study: MA, full-time and correspondence training
  • Language requirements: Intermediate, complex (oral and written) exam
  • Entry requirements: Computer Program Designer, Economic IT Specialist, Engineering IT Specialist, Informatics Librarian B.Sc or equivalent college/university degree,
  • computer studies teacher degree,
  • other college or university teacher degree with minimum 50 relevant credits.

Peculiarities of the program: During the course it is possible to spend one or two semesters abroad by Erasmus scholarship. Subjects completed abroad are acknowledged. Erasmus students are also supported by Lyceum Pro Scientiis Fund of the College and Abacus Fund of Mathematics and Informatics Department. Most students spend a semester at Johannes Kepler University, Linz, but there is a possibility to study in Germany, Slovakia, Romania or the Netherlands as well.
