Sport Manager BSc.

Name of qualification in the degree: Sports Manager

Period of education: 6 semesters,

Course length: B.Sc., Full-time and correspondence training

Aim of education: The aim of the program is the training of such professionals whose familiarity of the subject matter enables them to fulfil sports management and sports organisation-related tasks, in addition to identifying and effectively utilising resources required for physical education programs and for various sports activities, also to respond to the challenges posed by the social and economic background of the sports industry. Furthermore, the acquired theoretical knowledge will enable graduates to continue their studies in second cycle M.A. programs.

Having acquired undergraduate degree the sports manager is familiar with:

  • the aims, organisational and relation system of physical education and sports organisation,
  • pedagogical, psychological, sociological aspects of applying human resources,
  • basic sport-science, economic, management, organisational skills necessary for sports management.
  • Having acquired undergraduate degree the sports manager is capable of:
  • efficient application of acquired professional, legal, organisational and managerial skills,
  • creating physical educational and sports organisations, clubs, defining its aims and organising sports programs,
  • creating and efficiently utilising financial, physical and human conditions necessary to fulfil the aims of the organisation.

Having acquired undergraduate degree the sports manager is able to:

  • fulfil managerial, organisational tasks at sports organisations, clubs, local governments, recreational centres, organisations involved in programme organising,
  • do sports marketing activity.

Graduates have skills at problem identifying, problem solving, cooperational and communicational skills, language knowledge.

Ideal candidate:

  • interested in body culture, sports and sports economy
  • interested in construction of human body and its work in general and during sport
  • wants to develop his skills and abilities in organising sports programmes, managing sports organisations
  • feels important that apart from sports managerial skills a professional with good sports culture has sports recreational basic knowledge as well.

Main subjects:

  • Basic disciplines (sports history, sports pedagogy, sports psychology, sports sociology).
  • Medical subjects (anatomy, physiology, human biology, first aid).
  • Economic disciplines (management and organising, finance, accountancy, statistics, marketing, enterprise).
  • Sports economics disciplines (sports law, sports management, sports marketing, sports enterprise, marketing-communication, sports diplomacy).
  • Sports requirements (atletics, gymnastics, swimming, handball, basketball, football, volleyball).
  • Elective knowledge (recreation and tourism, programme organiser)
  • Professional placement: camps (tourism camp, skicamp, water camp), placement at physical educational and sports organisations, clubs.

Language requirements: Intermediate, complex (oral and written) exam in one language

Possibilities for further education: PhD course: Having acquired a sports manager B.Sc degree, 40% of graduates can be admitted to a second cycle M.A. program which can be continued by a PhD course.

Attractions of the profession: Sport manager work is an activity whose precondition is education, studies and degree related to sport, this way it is more than a general manager degree. Through specialisation different valuable, well convertable skills can be acquired. Organising sports events, finding sponsors, managing an organisation are all nice tasks for a manager.

Chances and possibilities for work: Those having a sports manager B.Sc. degree can have various job possibilities: (as leisure time organiser at schools, manager or lifestyle advisor at fitness centres, sports manager or sports organiser at sports clubs, sport supervisor at local governments, etc).

Hungarian sports manager degree is accepted all over the world.
