Mathematics BSc.

Specialisations: Mathematician - Teacher

Course description

The aim of the program is the training of mathematicians familiar with the application of the science in technical, economic, statistical and computer-science related objectices or want to be mathematics teachers. Furthermore, the acquired theoretical knowledge will enable graduates to continue their studies in second cycle M.Sc. programs.

Two specialisations are available which can be opted for in the third semester. At mathematics specialisation students study various fields of mathematics during all the six semesters, while at teacher specialisation students must take another teacher program besides mathematics to study 50 credits.

Careers

Mathematics has been and will be taught as a major subject in all types of schools. Great number of lessons requires adequate number of teachers so job possibilities are good after second cycle M.A. program.

Graduate mathematicians can utilise their knowledge in technology, business, statistical and computer-science fields which is a basic requirement of business entities wishing to function successfully in present economic-market orientated circumstances. There are numerous jobs which can be done by B.Sc. level mathematicians.

Moreover, M.A graduates supply professionals to fields requiring thorough mathematical knowledge and they provide researcher supply of the profession and teachers in both public and higher education.

Having sucessfully completed M.A program candidates can apply for doctoral programs awarding PhD degrees.

Focus of the training

Following the completion of B.Sc. basic degree at teacher specialisation candidates can continue their studies in second cycle M.A. training schemes to get a mathematics teacher degree at our college both full-time and correspondence courses to validate them to teach 10-18-year age group in public education. Following the 60-year old outstanding traditions of mathematics teacher training in Eger our focus besides theoretic Mathematics disciplines is to prepare our students for teacher profession. To achieve it students are taught Pedagogy and Psychology in 10 credits already during their basic training.

At mathematician specialisation graduates with a B.Sc degree acquire thorough knowledge in theoretical and applied Mathematics and also various fields of Informatics. Our aim is that following the completion of their course - after a successful entrance exam - our students acquire a M.Sc mathematician degree and later even a PhD degree.

It is also our aim to give thorough mathematical base for those wishing to continue their studies at M.Sc. level at other courses and fields.

General information
